HIGH SCHOOL writing support

Writing is really, really hard. It's probably the most cognitively demanding thing students have to do while they are at school.

Kids need a knowledge of their audience, knowledge of their reader's needs, they need to understand their content, understand the writing process, have sentence level knowledge, vocabulary knowledge, transcriptional knowledge, all before they get started on their writing activity.

Through explicitly teaching writing and self-direction skills, kids are taught how to build their sentence and vocabulary skills, organise and develop their note-taking skills, use sentence variation and cohesion, edit and present, critique and analyse their own writing. 

Building kid's writing skills gives them a voice, it allows them the freedom and confidence to present their ideas, it gives them confidence to undertake extended writing tasks and empowers them to understand and pull apart the task they have been asked to execute.  Tis programme builds their confidence, giving the kids who struggle with writing a chance to grow.
